About this property

Welcome to The Peerless Hotel

Located in a historic redbrick building dating back to 1900, The Peerless Hotel occupies a former boarding house for railroad workers in Ashland’s quiet 4th Street neighborhood. It offers individually decorated rooms featuring antique furnishings that contribute to a distinct period ambiance. Guests appreciate the blend of vintage character with modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi access and free parking.

The property operates without onsite staff, providing a self check-in experience that many find simple and efficient, though the absence of personnel and steep, narrow staircases may present challenges for those with mobility concerns. Accommodations include suites with features like twin soaking tubs and jacuzzi baths, appealing especially to couples or visitors seeking a quiet, intimate stay. Some guests have noted occasional noises due to the building’s age, including squeaky floorboards and bathroom plumbing sounds, which are part of the hotel’s authentic charm but might affect lighter sleepers.

Conveniently positioned just a six-minute walk from Downtown Ashland’s shops and restaurants, the hotel is also within half a mile of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival venues, making it a suitable base for visitors attending the cultural attractions. The setting offers easy pedestrian access to local amenities and cafes, enhancing its appeal for travelers aiming to explore the area on foot.

As an LGBTQ+ friendly property, The Peerless Hotel welcomes diverse guests seeking a uniquely historic and quiet retreat. While the hotel’s intimate and museum-like qualities are frequently praised, it is best suited to those who appreciate character and charm over modern hotel facilities or extensive onsite services.

Best hotel bed I’ve had the pleasure of staying in. The hotel is beautiful but very old building is not necessarily good for those with disabilities due to the lack of staff and very steep staircase. That said, self check in was simple and staff were quick to reply when I had a question. We stayed in the suite with a Mountain View and the bathroom with the jacuzzi tub was fantastic. Super close to other activities in Ashland if you want to walk or drive. Would recommend to anyone looking for a romantic getaway.

Stayed in room 2. Almost gave it 4 stars because we were woken both nights by the people above us walking around. Couldn't hear them talking but the floorboards were very squeaky. But you know what? Once the noise submitted, we slept like babies. The biggest point? This is basically a museum-quality historic hotel with tons of ambiance and the squeaky floors are all part of the deal. If you're into historic hotels and lodges, book a room now. I think we might stay on the second floor next time though. But the stairs are narrow and kind of steep ( no elevator). No, it's not a cookie cutter modern hotel with 7-11 lighting that somebody apparently wanted who gave it three stars. (And she wanted the room code to match the front door code, too. Yikes!) And who wants to be "greeted" by a front desk person after you've been on the road all day and you just want to go to your room but they want your driver's license, credit card, license plate, etc!? Great stay!

Our stay at the Peerless historic hotel was nothing short of magical. From the moment we walked in, it felt as though we had been transported to a quieter, more charming era—yet with all the comforts you’d hope for. The twin soaking tubs were an absolute highlight, perfect for unwinding together and adding a uniquely romantic touch to our stay. We loved spending time in the beautiful sun parlor(pictured), which quickly became our favorite spot. With its cozy coffee and tea bar and a variety of games, it created the ideal atmosphere for relaxing, reconnecting, and simply enjoying the moment. One of the best surprises was the absence of a TV in the room. Instead of background noise, we had uninterrupted quality time—something we didn’t realize we needed as much as we did. Quiet, intimate, and full of character, this hotel offers a refreshing escape from the everyday and a truly memorable experience.

The Peerless Hotel is an absolute gem and true historic masterpiece. They operate without any onsite staff which adds to the ambiance and private feel- a truly exceptional and unique experience you won't find anywhere else in Ashland. Stay here, you won't regret it

Very comfortable and spacious room. Loved the shower. The location of the hotel is in a quiet and safe area. However, the plumbing was very very noisy!! We stayed in room 1 and could hear very loudly the shower and toilet being used in the rooms above us. It was quite a surprise for a hotel of this quality. Such a shame.

It was an incredible stay! There is no front desk, but every time I messaged (texted) the property, I got a quick and helpful response back. We stayed in the double tub room and it was was gorgeous! They provided bath salts and bubbles which was a really cute touch, only wish they’d provided bath robes to be able to lounge in. They have a beautiful sitting room attached which was a nice place to relax in after. There is no kitchen, but they had a fridge, so that was nice. And there was tea and coffee down stairs every morning. Its location was awesome too, in walking distance from everything! There’s a coffee place basically next door (it’s a bit pricy, so we walked a little farther to Case coffee, our personal favorite) there are breakfast places close by, and the co op is only a few blocks away. We will definitely be coming back!

We loved the suite with the twin soaking tubs! Our stay was very romantic, and the location was perfect for exploring Ashland on foot. We appreciated the free parking, the nearby amenities, the sparkling wine that greeted us, the well-preserved historical ambience coupled with modern conveniences, and the seamless check-in process. They even offered late check-out for a small fee, well worth it. We didn't see the child ghost who is said to roam the halls at night...maybe next time! The hotel will even stamp and mail a postcard for you if you drop it in the historic mailbox mounted on brick exterior. Altogether a fun and memorable experience that we hope to repeat.
